What is Haven?
Haven is a 2010 SyFy Original show based on the novella by Stephen King, The Colorado Kid. It stars Emily Rose, Lucas Bryant, and Eric Balfour. Produced by the minds behind USA Channel’s The Dead Zone, Sam Ernst, and Jim Dunn. Shot primarily in Nova Scotia, the show aired in the United States, Canada, and certain countries in Europe, airing from 2011-2015. Here’s the synopsis from Wikipedia:
When FBI Special Agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) is dispatched to the small town of Haven, Maine, on a routine case, she finds herself becoming increasingly involved in the return of “The Troubles”, a plague of supernatural afflictions that have occurred in the town at least twice before. With an openness to the possibility of the paranormal, she also finds a more personal link in Haven that may lead her to the mother she has never known.
Over time, Parker, who eventually quits the FBI to join the Haven Police Department, begins to realize that her arrival in Haven may have been pre-arranged and that her name and even her memories may not be her own. As the series progresses, she learns more about the mysteries of both Haven and her true identity.
She and her partner, police detective Nathan Wuornos (Lucas Bryant), find themselves frequently facing problems caused by both the effects of the Troubles, as well as the activities of town folk who take more drastic measures against those who are Troubled.
Troubled: A Return to Haven
Troubled is a rewatch podcast dedicated to Haven. Hosted by Richard and Alex French, a father/son podcasting duo that watched Haven when it originally aired but have forgotten quite a bit, rediscovering the magic of Haven, Maine as they travel back to 2010 for another battle versus evil.
For every episode of the show, we dedicate a podcast episode. We watch the show, summarize it real quick for audience members that haven’t seen the episodes or need a quick refresher, give our personal ratings, discuss conversation topics and questions we have from the episode, and finally, we usually dedicate a small segment at the end towards something informative or fun. We might do something like analyze the opening montage for the show intro, we might do Stephen King trivia, or even try to recast the show and compare results. We also ask questions of the audience called Troubled Trivia. We give listeners until the next episode to send in their responses, we hope to hear from everyone!
We also have a companion series over on Patreon called Troubled with Extra Syrup where we cover anything related to Haven or Stephen King that might be outside the normal bounds of the show. We cover things like the novella Haven was based on, The Colorado Kid. We go over everything like how elements transferred to the show, compared to other Stephen King works, and theories on the mystery at the heart of the novella. Other bonus episodes include content like show music reviews, tie-in comic book reviews, and other fun stuff. There are other incoming bonuses to everyone who joins us on Patreon as well.
